Discover the irresistible charm of British Columbia - a province that captivates my Canadian heart with its breathtaking blend of majestic mountains, pristine waters, and everything in between. Try and steal the window seat if you're flying over this beautiful city to catch a glimpse of the mountains! For those seeking budget-friendly travel options, consider Swoop or Flair airlines when flying from the States or within Canada.

The window seat!

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA

Embarking on my first solo expedition to this city was an unexpected rollercoaster, thanks to a 72-hour flight delay. But hey, silver lining alert - I accidentally stumbled into the heart of this incredible city and ended up falling madly in love with all things BC. My tip: Make your home base on the lively Robson Street – it's like the nucleus of everything awesome, all within a skip and a hop!

Now, as much as I'd love to say every street is paved with gold, steer clear of Hastings Street – it's currently doing its best "rough around the edges" impersonation, complete with some high-crime drama and a cast of characters that found a permanent address. If you walk into an area you feel uncomfortable just turn around it won't likely get better the further you go.

Here are the must-see places:

  1. Stanley Park: Strap on a bike helmet or embrace your inner equestrian with a horse-drawn carriage for a rain-friendly adventure. Because who says you can't look chic with a rain poncho and a horse?

  2. Granville Island: Catch a water taxi for a grand entrance to Granville Market, where you can feast like royalty and shop like a pro. Bonus points for arriving in style.

  3. Gastown Steam Clock: Take a moment to appreciate one of the world's last-standing steam-operated clocks. It's like time traveled back to the good ol' puff-and-whistle days!

  4. Robson Street Shopping: Give your wallet a workout along the trendy Robson Street – it's like a fashion Olympics where everyone's a winner.

  5. Walk the Foreshore and Canada Place: Stroll along the waterfront, check out the Inukshuk statue, and get giggly with the A-maze-ing Laughter sculptures.

Wandering around Vancouver, BC

VANCOUVER ISLAND, BRITISH COLUMBIA

Rev up the adventure engine, throw on your explorer's hat, and buckle up for an epic coastal escapade on Vancouver Island! Hop on the ferry to Nanaimo and dive headfirst into a world of wonders. Brace yourself for the ultimate coastal rendezvous, with Tofino and Ucluelet stealing the spotlight!

Must Do's:

1. Hot Springs Cove: Immerse yourself in the bliss of Hot Springs Cove, where relaxation meets natural wonder. It's the ultimate soak-and-savor experience amidst breathtaking coastal landscapes.

2. Tofino Brewing Company: Quench your thirst with a visit to the Tofino Brewing Company. Sip on crafty concoctions that capture the essence of this vibrant island – because sipping in style is always on the itinerary!

3. Walk the Beaches: Lace up those beachcomber sandals and hit the shores! Stroll along the sandy stretches, inhale the salty breeze, and let the rhythm of the waves be your island playlist.

4. Catch a Seaplane: Elevate your island vibes by catching a seaplane. Soar above the coastal panorama for a bird's-eye view that will leave you breathless. It's not just a mode of transport; it's a sky-high adventure!

5. Visit Art Galleries: Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of West Coast art. Explore galleries bursting with creativity, where every brushstroke tells a tale of the island's artistic soul.

SQUAMISH, BRITISH COLUMBIA

Buckle up for the scenic Sky Highway (Highway 99), just an hour's drive from Vancouver, leading you to the gorgeous town of Squamish. With local bakeries, cute coffee spots, and gift stores that scream "I love the mountains," Squamish is the perfect pit stop. Whether you're heading to Whistler or planning an extended stay to conquer mountains like a boss, Squamish is your homely hideaway.

Now, onto our comedy special: behold the masterpiece from the Sea to Summit trail, taken on a sunny day in November. The view? Words can't do it justice, so here's a picture, and trust me, it's like the Earth showing off its Tinder profile pic.

Sea to Summit Hiking Trail

Our not-so-smooth trek up the Sea to Summit trail. Lesson learned - when tackling hikes, don't wing it like yours truly. We, the trailblazing comedians, hiked it without fully understanding the elevation, and our snack game was weak. Rookie mistake, right? But fear not, the view from the top was so epic, even our empty stomachs were clapping. Just a heads up - check the distance, elevation and recommendations on your hikes, pack snacks for the love of all that's funny.

Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge

WHISTLER, BRITISH COLUMBIA

Welcome to the Disneyland for outdoor enthusiasts! Whether you're skiing down slopes, hiking up mountains, or mountain biking like you're being chased by a flock of overly enthusiastic seagulls, this place has it all. Take a leisurely stroll through town, savor the food (because calories don't count on vacation), and stay in a mountain getaway that's cozy like your grandma's hug.

Now, let's talk about the local crowd – it's like a migration of Australian travelers mixed with young, energetic vibes that make the town buzz with more energy than a toddler on a sugar rush. If you're seeking peace and quiet, well, good luck with that! But fear not, there are hikes for everyone – the flat walkers, the mountain conquerors, and even the daredevils who think rocks are just adult-sized Legos. Now, my one regret in this outdoor playground? Not hopping on a seaplane! They operate only during certain times of the year, but on a clear day I bet the view is so jaw-dropping.
